Eastern Area Office
PEMA Eastern Area Office primary coverage is the 20 counties and hundreds of municipalities within the eastern third of the commonwealth.
Eastern area population and landscape is diverse with rural (Northeast) to major metropolitan areas (Philadelphia and suburbs).
Area staff works directly with all 20 counties and municipalities, three regional taskforces, one Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) area, two metropolitan strategic areas, and many committees and subcommittees. Staff also works closely with other state and federal agencies that have a role in emergency planning, response, and recovery.
The eastern area counties we work with are:
Berks
Bucks
Carbon
Chester
Columbia
Delaware
Lackawanna
Lehigh
Luzerne
Monroe
Montgomery
Montour
Northampton
Northumberland
Philadelphia
Pike
Schuylkill
Susquehanna
Wayne
Wyoming
Typical threats in the eastern area are flooding, severe storms, fires, hazardous material incidents, and all other threats experienced in the commonwealth. Another growing concern centers around Marcellus shale well drilling and its impact on local emergency providers.
This partnership of state, county, and municipal level emergency management officials has made consistent efforts to make your home a safer place to live. Through mitigation, planning, and exercises, we have striven to make Pennsylvania safe before disaster strikes. However, when disaster does strike, PEMA Eastern Area Office staff is prepared to respond to the counties need for assistance in the form of support staff for damage assessment, or in the form of being a liaison between the county and other commonwealth agencies.
The PEMA Eastern Area Office is StormReady.
